When I started working on this guide to the top 10 Apple stories of 2008

By admin on December 7, 2009

When I started working on this guide to the top 10 Apple stories of 2008, I thought that this was a relatively quiet year for Apple. After all, this wasn’t a year for blockbuster product introductions like the iPod or iPhone. It was, I thought, a year of incremental changes.

By the time I was done with my research, I’d changed my mind. This was a huge year for Apple. While there was no single triumphant product introduction, the company moved forward briskly on all fronts. It accelerated the iPhone’s revolution of the smartphone industry by upgrading hardware and software and introducing the App Store. It reversed its previously poor record on environmentalism. It continued to be financially successful in an economy where blue-chip companies are failing. And it bolstered its notebook and desktop computer line, struggled with false rumors about Steve Jobs’s health, fought a company looking to make Mac clones, and struggled with its MobileMe service. Called Sonata, the lithium-ion IBM X61 Tablet Battery can withstand up to three years of recharging before losing its maximum capacity, according to Boston Power. Most batteries used today have a lifespan of about half that much. In addition, the battery recharges in only 30 minutes, which is much faster than traditional laptop batteries, and is less likely to overheat. But you don’t have to be a Scrooge just because tough times require you to be a tightwad. Spread good cheer by taking advantage of the fact that consumer electronics firms are slashing prices to the bone. Although you’ll find deepest discounts for higher-ticket items such as MP3 players, laptops, and flat-screen televisions, you’ll find bargains all over the spectrum. To help you stay within budget during what is likely to be a cash-strapped holiday season, we’ve put together a list of 35 high-tech gadgets under $100 to bring joy into any household. Clearly, this wasn’t one of Apple’s bigger announcements of the decade; Apple didn’t introduce any breathtaking new products, like it did with the iPhone in 2007, or the iPod in 2001, that won instant converts to the Apple brand. No, this one was for the folks who are already fans. The S121 gets up to eight hours of IBM T60 Battery life with its 512-GB SSD and Asustek’s Super Hybrid Engine, a technology created through redesigning hardware, software, and BIOS to boost performance and power efficiency. Asustek claims the technology extends battery life 35% to 53%. The speed was noticeably improved. I’ve tested a number of OQO devices over the years and always found them on the slow side. Not the model 2+. By upping the RAM to 2 GB and using the Intel Atom processor, OQO has really boosted the performance of the model 2+.In addition, the Vaio P Series Lifestyle PC, unveiled Wednesday at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, is about the size of a business envelope and as thin as a cell phone. As a result, the device is small enough to slip into a jacket pocket or handbag, while still delivering full PC functionality. The emergence of new leadership is a significant change for Apple. But it’s a positive one. It would be necessary even if Jobs was as healthy as an ox. Companies, no matter how big or small they are, and no matter how healthy or sick their leaders are, need a plan of succession, what to do in case something happens to the leadership. Investors, employees, and partners should know what the plan is, so they can have confidence on the company’s long-term future. In theory, you should already be aware that SSDs are not the next best thing to sliced bread. (Peanut butter is, except if you’re allergic.) However, they do provide interesting — and worthwhile — transitional points for our current crop of netbooks and notebooks. Let’s dive in and examine the genre, and bust a couple of myths while we’re at it. The new Latitude XT 2 can run up to 11 hours and 28 minutes without a recharge with the use of two six-cell batteries, according to Dell. The second Dell Latitude E5500 Battery is sold as an option. There’s also the novelty factor. We in computing just love new and different things. That may explain why new editions of netbooks seem to show up faster than baby bunnies at a rabbit farm. The chipmaker in January entered the mini-laptop market with the introduction of the i.MX515 processor, which the company claims is less expensive and delivers longer battery life than Intel’s Atom processor, which dominates the fast-growing netbook market today.

Cheap DELL Latitude 2100 11.1V,3 cell 6 cell Laptop Batteries

By admin on December 6, 2009

Dell Latitude 2100 With its fun, lightweight design and built-in mobility, the Dell Latitude 2100 gives modern classrooms a new gateway to discovery and collaboration. Expand students’ capabilities to touch the future, and enjoy the convenience of these features and more: us– http://www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com/laptop-battery/dell-latitude-2100.htm  Durable Case and Network Activity Light, as well as optional touchscreen and keyboard with antimicrobial protection. Choice of rubberized colors, as well as optional carrying handle and personalization with custom inserts. Core fundamentals of the Latitude family, including remote systems management, long lifecycles, managed transitions, and a broad range of service and support offerings.

- Rubberized coating on LCD cover and back of laptop ensure excellent grip.- well-placed hard drive, power, WIFI activity lights on the front edge of the notebook- LED screen is very bright and crisp. The LCD brightness has 15 levels!- very cheap upgrade to the touchscreen- with my large hands I find the keyboard is a decent size, keys are responsive and laid out very well- Very light netbook, I know some people were saying it was one of the heavy ones but I think it’s a great trade off to have something built well with quality construction than to have a cheapo plastic light netbook.- 3 USB ports especially for a small laptop!- gigabit LAN- bluetooth & wireless N options- very customizable Latitude Dell BIOS- this dell Latitude laptop runs MUCH faster with Windows 7 than XP! Going to hibernation and resuming and rebooting is very very fast and perky. Support for the touchscreen is much better in Windows 7 and it is very responsive.CONS- double-tapping support for the touchscreen is very flaky with Windows XP- so far, no obvious way to turn off the “network activity light” on the LCD cover. This is very bright at night and uses dell F079N battery power. There should be an option in the BIOS to disable or at least a switch on the mainboard. A BIOS update to version A01 didn’t give any option either.- Dell isn’t offering a free upgrade to Windows 7! This is practically Dell’s newest addition to the Latitude series and there’s no deal? Hopefull this changes

- A little bit tedious to change RAM and hard drive: 6 screws to remove on the back, keyboard then must be pushed out and unplugged, another 3 screws from the top to release the back panel. It would be nice just to have little access doors. I guess this was done to prevent easy tinkering since this was designed primarily for school use    http://www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com/laptop-battery/asus-eee-pc-series.html      – Only upgradable to 2GB total RAM. I was surprised that I couldn’t put a $40 2GB DIMM in the expansion slot to make 3GB total. How hard would it have been to have a chipset that supports 3GB of RAM? But not TOO big a deal since Windows 7 runs very fast on 2GB. And I don’t think most people would be using big applications on these 2100s anyways.- I was surprised there was a fan in this laptop, though I rarely hear it I assumed that there would be no moving parts and noise (with a SSD drive). I did research and the N270 CPU does run hotter then it’s sister Z530 which is put in the Inspiron Minis–but–it is a higher performance CPU

- A back-lit keyboard would’ve been nice. Since this is considered a “netbook” people will be using it in hotels, on the couch in relative darkness and sometimes it’s hard to find the F-keys or function keys. Maybe instead the useless network activity light and extremely bright 3 volume buttons and caps lock indicator lights we could of had a back-lit keyboard option.

Acer Aspire 1410 Review

By admin on December 6, 2009

Have you ever want to buy the aspire 1410 laptop for work or life?  And have you ever seen it? Have you ever …

Let’s review it togetherThe Acer Aspire 1410 is a bit larger than your typical netbook thanks to its 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and nearly full sized keyboard. But with a growing number of netbook makers putting out 11.6 inch models, it’s not the screen that makes this laptop stand out. It’s the processor and chipset. Take a look at Aspire 1410 system specs in advance:

* 1.4GHz Intel Core2 Solo ULV SU3500 Processor * Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD * 2GB DDR2 667MHz Memory * 250GB SATA Hard Drive * Acer Crystal Eye Webcam * Intel WiFi Link 5100 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N * Windows Vista Home Premium (SP 1) * 6-cell Li-ion Battery (4400 mAh), 6-hour laptop battery life * 11.6? HD WXGA Acer CrystalBrite LED-backlit Display * Ports: 3 x USB 2.0, Headphone/Speaker/Line-Out, Microphone-in, VGA, HDMI, RJ-45 (LAN), SD card slot * Dimensions: 11.22? (W) x 8.03? (D) x 0.87-1.18? (H) * Weight: 3.1 Pounds

Using experience:

The Acer Aspire 1410 battery life could be better, which is different from HP mini 1000 Battery, and

HP 2133 battery and some netbook fans may decide that an 11.6 inch laptop is just too large to be truly portable. But during the two weeks that I’ve been testing the Aspire 1410, I’ve come to rely on it as a workhorse laptop that can handle almost any task I can throw at it. the Aspire 1410 has become the first laptop I grab whether I’m about to run out of the house, or just to the living room for some light web surfing. Corporate Business Gifts – Will E-Readers Be The Top Tech Gifts This Christmas?

By admin on December 5, 2009

Copyright (c) 2009 Titus Hoskins

E-Readers which are also called digital or electronic readers, lets users wirelessly download books and read them on hand-held devices resembling a glorified etch-a-sketch. That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but these handy little digital readers have become extremely popular; according to a recent Time article, Amazon has already sold 1.7 million of the Kindle E-Reader since it was introduced in 2007.

And according to the same article, the Association of American Publishers states total revenue from digital-book downloads has risen 149% this year, while they estimate e-book readers sales to top 3 million by Dec. 31. Plus, according to Forrester Research around 1 million of these gadgets could be sold this holiday season, and sales in 2010 are projected to double, to 6 million.

“The year 2009 is a breakout year for e-readers,” says Sarah Rotman Epps, an analyst with Forrester Research. “But we’re still in the early stages.”

Those make for very impressive numbers and it could point to E-Readers as “the” hot Christmas gift this Holiday Season; at least where tech gadgets are concerned. Given its well received features and programs, an E-Reader could make for an excellent corporate business gift, especially if you could brand them with your company logos and stream them with your company’s newsletters and RSS feeds.

Then we also have the recent launch of the NOOK from Barnes & Noble which will give the Amazon Kindle some competition. The Nook has a 6-inch paper-like display which uses a 16-level grayscale that can support up to five fonts. You can use it to read PDFs, in addition to over 1 million books, newspapers and magazines available in Barnes & Noble’s eBook store. The Nook is currently priced at around $260.

How is it different from the Kindle: besides the flashy color icons, designer cases and color customizable back panel; the Nook does have some nice features such as a virtual bookmark called Reading Now that lets you pick up where you left off reading on the Nook, and it has Wi-Fi radio which customers can use at 700 Barnes & Noble’s locations and at 600 college stores in 50 states. There’s enough memory for holding 1,500 books (2 GB) and there’s a microSD slot which could give you another 16 GB more.

But this holiday season, gift buyers (corporate or otherwise) will have many more E-Readers to choose from other than the Kindle and the Nook. Where there’s a profit to be made, other companies will follow. Just like when Asustek invented the category of Netbook with its ASUS Eee-PC in 2007, other laptop makers and sellers quickly jumped on the bandwagon and the marketplace was flooded with netbooks or mini-laptops.

This recent trend towards E-Readers will prove no different; take for example Sony, who introduced the first electronic reader way back in 2004, will be introducing three new devices according to the Time’s article. The Sony Reader will have a Pocket Edition ($199), sporting a 5-inch-diagonal screen, Touch Edition ($299) which will be touchscreen-equipped and the Daily Edition ($399), which will feature wireless capability.

Asus is also entering the E-Reader market with a product called the Eee-reader which should be on the market for Christmas. Then there is the Fujitsu FLEPia which is the only commercially available E-Reader which has a color display. It’s only available in Japan and costs around $1,100. Ouch!

For the more modest consumer, the Irex Digital Reader will be hitting U.S. stores this month, October 2009. The DR800 will have an 8.1-in. touchscreen with wireless connectivity and will sell for $90 less than the similarly sized Kindle DX, which will set you back around $489. This is the price at the time of writing, expect those prices to drop as competition heats up.

On the horizon, there are many different versions of the e-reader that will hit the market. There is even a fold up model which will open like a book and another one called the Polymer Vision Readius which is also a phone but it has a flexible screen that folds up around the phone to make it extra portable.

Then we have the looming debut of Apple’s fabled iTablet which could be a game changer in the whole E-Reader arena. It could also be a Kindle or Nook Killer given Apple’s enormous popularity with tech savvy consumers who only want the latest gadget on the market.

One really has to question why all this popularity for the E-Reader, especially since we already have the small portable netbook on the market, which can be easily used for reading books. More specifically, we already have Tablet PCs which could easily fulfill this reading function. Granted they may be slightly larger, but they also offer all the features of a laptop, so why not just convert/use this device as an E-Reader?

Regardless, the E-Reader seems to be gearing up to be a top tech gift this holiday season. The perfect gift for family members, friends and employees alike… especially for the book-reading fanatics in your family or company. E-Readers are also the ideal gifts for those who simply must have the latest and newest tech gadget on the market.

These options help preserve cash flow

By admin on December 4, 2009

Small companies, especially those intent on growing, can’t screw up. At the delicate growth stage, screwing up means less about picking the wrong technology but rather paying far too much for the technology you pick. That’s why cloud computing, or Software As A Service, or Hosted Application Providers (you choose the term you like) can be your best friend.

Do you want to be safer? Allow your employees to be a little more rude to people asking questions and trying to get inside your business. Sometimes, outside service people are setting you up for an HP mini 1000 battery inside computer hack.

Leave a comment if your group has access to behind the scenes technology and would be interested in hosting tech tours.

In true Web fashion, the companies realized they were already providing some hooks and links between themselves based on customer requests. Leveraging those requests to build interaction into the system from the beginning made sense.

Apple, of course, continues to deny a netbook is in the works, even though multiple reports from Taiwan and Chinese manufacturing HP mini 1000 battery companies say an Apple netbook-tablet is in the works. For that extra bit of design, and because Apple is Apple, the rumors predict a retail price around $800.

You know those bad parts of town, where smart people never go? Those parts of town are everywhere on the Web. Any where you go, the bad part of Web town is one URL typo away, one e-mail attachment away, and one weak password away. The Web is wondrous and captivating, but it’s also crime riddled. Watch your step. Be careful out there, no matter what type of computer and operating system you’re driving.

However, if you’re one of the people who Compaq Presario B3800 Battery actually do real work for real people, such as customers, Wave probably won’t help much. We won’t know until we get our hands on it, of course, but Wave is designed for screen slaves.

These options help preserve cash flow by avoiding the purchase of servers and software to run your application. The upfront and ongoing cost for Microsoft’s Small Business Server is enormous to growing companies. You can get all the same features with one to three SaaS options.

Mini Netbooks Accessories

By admin on December 2, 2009

For traveling, business, and personal computing needs, mini netbooks rocks! The lightweight and compact features of this device are what makes it a hot piece and a must-have. Just imagine bringing business, fun, entertainment, and pleasure, all in one small piece of device. As the word implies, mini netbooks are small enough to take them to anywhere and everywhere you go. Though they may lack some features that laptops posses, still they are considered useful devices for portable computing, internet surfing and all other work-related demands. Mini netbooks can greatly be enjoyed especially if you accessorize them with additional functional features such as..

• External USB DVD player and burner – Some mini netbooks don’t have optical drives thus you cannot play a CD or DVD or install a software from a CD. So, as a solution, you can purchase external USB DVD player/burner to perform necessary operations. It will be a big problem if you have to reinstall the OS on the mini netbooks. You really need an external USB/DVD device to make your netbook experience a lot easier.

• Flash memory cards/flash disks – Except for high-end mini netbooks, standard netbooks have limited memory. So, to expand its storage, you can add a memory card. Usually, mini netbooks have built-in memory card reader. Flash memory or flash disks are essential storage accessories. They can store up to 8GB or more data.

• External USB Hard Drive – If you are dealing with large amounts of data, you need to back up your data with external USB hard drive. This is usually a two inches thick device that can store up to 120GB. Using a USB 2.0 interface, you will not need a power adaptor to use an external hard drive. You only need to plug it in the mini netbooks.

• Wireless and Keyboard and Mouse – The fact that mini netbooks are small and keyboard and trackpad offer limited space for long periods of working, you can use wireless keyboard and mouse for maximum convenience.

• Wireless router – If you want to enjoy the internet, you will need this mini netbooks accessory. This will allow you to connect to the internet. Be sure to pick the right router for your netbook.

Today, more and more mini netbooks accessories are available and depending on your needs, you should choose additional devices that will answer your needs and will provide you utmost functionality. These add-ons are designed to make your mini netbooks experience more fulfilling and exciting. These will allow you to use your netbook to the max.

Buying mini netbooks accessory can be a daunting task. Good thing that there are various online stores out there that offer top of the line accessories for netbooks. And since the holiday season is coming, buyers will definitely enjoy the great discounts and huge cut off on mini netbooks accessory prices. However, take note; don’t be fooled by some seemingly great discounts because sometimes, they are only blinding you with their marketing strategies. Be sure to purchase only quality netbook accessories.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Mini Netbooks

By admin on December 2, 2009

Mini netbooks are miniature notebooks. These are light-weight portable netbooks that you can take with you on-the-go fro internet access, email and common business tasks. Mini netbooks typically have slimed down operating system, smaller than usual keyboard and screen and very little space for storage, if there is any. Though mini netbooks have less processing power than a fill=-sized laptop, they are still suitable for word processing and running a web browser. Mini netbooks fall into a category of what is referred to by vendors as “small form” of computer. These Mini netbooks have been known for several names including subnotebook, ultra-portable, mini-thin client, cloudbook and ultra-mobile PC. Initially, Mini netbooks targeted the education market. These are also designed to for consumers who may want a second computer. According to industry analysts at Gartner Inc., Mini netbooks sales are likely to outstrip those traditional laptops in 2009.
Mini netbooks took the world by storm when they were first introduced in 2008. As a result, the decision what computer to buy becomes even more difficult now. Though the choice is not always mini netbooks, their advantages have been very evident. Since mini netbooks are really smaller than the usual, they don’t take much space and can even fit in a handbag. A full-sized laptop could be portable for an average male but for every body else this is still a lot of weight to carry especially when it is not the only item in the suitcase. Low price is another major advantage of mini netbooks. High end mini netbooks could cost as low as a low-end or average laptop. And generally these are also cheaper than desktops.
But just like anything, mini netbooks have some disadvantages. Since the screen is small, the image on a mini netbook appears smaller. This could be a problem to those who are shortsighted. Because of its size, mini netbooks have special processors which are less powerful than those in laptops and desktops but still quite enough to do the typical tasks of a mini netbook user. Having no CD drive is another minor disadvantage of mini netbooks. There are some with a CD but it increases their weight automatically. This is just a minor disadvantage because if one has USB sticks, memory card or a cable, the lack of CD for data transfer is no longer a problem.
Mini netbooks could not be ideal but their advantages are certainly important. Their disadvantages are not exactly intangible but are not major problems either. Knowing these advantages and disadvantages in advance is important. These could lead into an informed decision if mini netbooks are worth buying or not.

Stock Notebooks in Stores this Summer

By admin on November 29, 2009

On the heels of Verizon??s announcement last week of its  Mini for $199 (with a two year contract), AT&T confirmed that it will start selling netbooks directly to customers this summer. According to Reuters, head of AT&T??s consumer business Ralph de la Vega said the company would sell netbooks from Dell, Acer and Lenovo with mobile broadband plans starting sometime in the next few months. While AT&T stores in Atlanta and Philadelphia and RadioShack have been selling the original 8.9 inch Acer Aspire one for $99 with a two-year AT&T data connection, AT&T will be widening the selection of netbooks it offers and bringing them to more stores nationwide. Similar to Verizon??s plans, AT&T has been offering low-bandwidth data Hp laptop battery plan for $40-per-month and a higher limit for $60. Of course, we are still torn on if it is worth buying a netbook at all with a mobile broadband service agreement. Two years ago, your notebook was young and speedy. It would jump at the chance to do your bidding. But now, as you endlessly tap your fingers waiting for programs to load, it seems slower and less enthusiastic about doing its duty. Though it may be tempting to give your system the old heave-ho, you may not have to spend money on a new machine. Adding an affordable solid state drive could add a couple of years to your notebook??s lifespan, and even out-perform a new notebook. To find out just how much of a difference an SSD can make, we upgraded a two-year-old Sony VAIO VGN-FZ140E with a 1.8-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, Windows Vista Home Premium, and a 4,200-rpm, 200GB Toshiba MK2035GSS hard drive. In 2007, it cost $1,500 and performed admirably. But time and regular usage had laptop battery taken its toll, slowing down basic tasks to a glacial pace. We tested the system both before and after adding a 120GB OCZ Vertex SSD. Read on to find out how much of a difference the upgrade made. Getting StartedTo transfer all the existing data on the VAIO, we used the Apricorn ADW-USB kit ($29.99; www.newegg.com). It connected from the notebook to the Vertex SSD via a USB port, transferring the operating system, programs, and other data??in this case, nearly 100GB worth of files??in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Our notebook uses a 2.5-inch hard drive with a Serial ATA (SATA) interface. The majority of solid state disks on the market also use SATA interfaces, and are 2.5 or 1.8 inches. Replacing the old drive was easy: we opened a panel on the back of the system, pulled out the old drive, and popped in the new one. Note: Older systems use a Parallel ATA (PATA) interface, which isn??t compatible with most high-performance SSDs. Check your notebook??s instruction manual, your hard drive controller in the Windows Device Manager, or open the back panel and check the interface on the drive itself. PATA drives have two rows of pins, while SATA ports have a thin, two-part plastic

Inspiring the Masses: The New Dell Inspiron 545

By admin on November 27, 2009

With the start of another school year just around the corner, most of the big players in the notebook manufacturing industry will surely be coming up with their own line of new laptops that are specifically catered for the returning students. There will be a lot of makes and models to choose from – perhaps even too much for most of the consumers. Most students will not need cutting edge technology when it comes to their laptops. The basic uses of most student notebooks include research, writing term papers, preparing presentations, and of course taking notes in class. Because of this, they most likely won’t require notebooks with top of the line features; functional netbooks should do the trick. 1GB of RAM, an Intel Atom processor, and Windows XP should be an appropriate combination that could fit the purposes of a majority of students. Also, extended battery life and some wear and tear durability are some other features that should come in handy.Below are some of the best new netbooks of the year that should help students on their way to that much coveted “A”.Aspire One AOD250 (Acer)With a price tag of only $247, Acer has exhibited its sympathy for most students’ economical budgets in the release of the Aspire One AOD250. This is currently one of the cheapest netbooks in the market that sports the standard 10-inch screen. The AOD250 is a slimmer version of its predecessor, but it is still equipped with the same basic combination – 1GB of RAM, the Intel Atom processor, and Windows XP. If one is not too happy with the 3-cell battery included in the kit, he can choose to buy an upgraded version with a 6-cell battery for $349.  Eee PC 1005HA (ASUS)The Eee PC line has gained a formidable reputation among student circles and the PC 1005HA should be no different. Priced at a reasonable $389, this newest addition to the Eee family should be able to live up to the high standards set by its predecessors. Similar to Acer’s AOD250, the ASUS 1005HA will also have 1GB of RAM and a pre-installed Windows XP OS. However, the discrepancies begin with the latter’s Atom N280 processor, which is Intel’s newest. It will also come with a 160GB hard drive as well as a very impressive 9-hour maximum battery life – the longest we’ve seen in a netbook yet.  Latitude 2100 (Dell)With the release of the Inspiron Mini line which is catered to the mid-level consumers, some might think that Dell may have forgotten about the student market. All doubt will be set aside once they encounter the Latitude 2100. Coming in a multitude of attractive color schemes (School Bus Gold, Chalkboard Black, and Ballfield Green), the Latitude 2100 will also be equipped with a tough exterior that sports a rubber coating and an antimicrobial keyboard. Users will also have the option to upgrade the Latitude 2100 so that it will have additional features such as a 6-cell battery and a fully optimized touch screen display.
